THE REDUCETARIAN SOLUTION

How the Surprisingly Simple Act of Reducing the Amount of Meat in Your Diet Can Transform Your Health and the Planet

Brian Kateman coined the term “Reducetarian”—a person who is deliberately reducing his or her consumption of meat—and a global movement was born. In this book, Kateman, the founder of the Reducetarian Foundation, presents more than 70 original essays from influential thinkers on how the simple act of cutting 10% or more of the meat from one’s diet can transform the life of the reader, animals, and the planet. This book features contributions from such luminaries as Seth Godin, Joel Fuhrman, Victoria Moran, Jeffrey Sachs, Bill McKibben, Naomi Oreskes, Peter Singer, and others. With over 40 vegan, vegetarian, and “less meat” recipes from bestselling cookbook author Pat Crocker, as well as tons of practical tips for reducing the meat in your diet (for example, skip eating meat with dinner if you ate it with lunch; replace your favorite egg omelet with a tofu scramble; choose a veggie burrito instead of a beef burrito; declare a meatless day of the week), The Reducetarian Solution is a life—not to mention planet!—saving book.

ENVIRONMENTAL REALITY: RETHINKING THE OPTIONS

Chaired by His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, the Royal Colloquium gathered 25 invited experts on the environment to discuss the realities facing humanity and options for the future. ”It is all about us” Humanity is in a new terrain. We have impressively expanded the scale and scope of the human enterprise on Earth and accelerated into a globally connected but also fragmented world operating throughout the planet at a pace never before witnessed. Humanity has become a significant force in shaping the dynamics of planet Earth in general and its biosphere – the thin layer of life around Earth – in particular. In the name of progress we seem to have lost sight of the inherent interdependence of humans and the biosphere.

A CHAPTER FOR THE SWEDISH KING

I have contributed with a chapter in the book “Environmental Reality: Rethinking the Options.” The publication is based on the presentations and contributions to the 12th Royal Colloquium in May 2016. The Royal Colloquium started in 1992, where a selected group of scientists and decision makers were invited by the Swedish king, CarlX VI Gustav, to discuss these matters in an informal setting. I was lucky to be a part of the colloquium in 2016 and proud to have contributed to this publication.

ØVELSE GJØR MESTER

[av_textblock size=’14’ font_color=” color=” admin_preview_bg=”]

TEDGLOBAL I SEPTEMBER
